Directed by and starring Germi as Inspector Ingravallo, the film blends crime drama, noir atmosphere and early giallo-like mystery into a sharp investigation of secrets behind closed doors.
 
Inspector Ingravallo is called to a Roman apartment building to investigate a robbery, questioning tenants as he searches for the truth. But what first appears to be a straightforward case soon reveals deeper tensions, suspicious behaviour and a far more serious crime.
 
Loosely adapted from Carlo Emilio Gadda’s celebrated novel, The Facts of Murder features inky noir-inspired photography and a strong supporting cast including Claudia Cardinale, Claudio Gora, Franco Fabrizi and Eleonora Rossi Drago. The film won multiple awards in Italy, including the Golden Globe for Best Film.
