Bandits Of Orgosolo Blu-ray brings Vittorio De Seta’s landmark 1961 film to home video for the first time ever, newly restored in 4K and presented in a limited edition Blu-ray. Set against the harsh, windswept landscapes of Sardinia, the film follows a poor shepherd whose life collapses after he is falsely accused of murder, forcing him into exile and ultimately into banditry as the only means of survival.

Drawing on the traditions of Italian neo-realism while forging a starkly individual voice, De Seta blends ethnographic observation with poetic rigor. Non-professional actors, regional dialects, and an unforgiving natural environment ground the film in lived reality, while its visual compositions and moral weight elevate it beyond reportage. The result is a deeply human portrait of injustice, isolation, and dignity under pressure, shaped as much by landscape as by character.

Upon its original release, Bandits Of Orgosolo won multiple awards at the Venice Film Festival and earned lasting admiration from filmmakers and critics alike, including Martin Scorsese, who famously described De Seta as “an anthropologist who spoke with the voice of a poet.” Despite its reputation, the film remained unavailable on home video for decades. This Radiance Films edition finally rectifies that absence, sourced from a meticulous 4K restoration by The Film Foundation and Cineteca di Bologna.
