The Rapacious Jailbreaker Blu-ray delivers one of the most ferocious entries in 1970s Japanese true-account crime cinema, directed by genre master Sadao Nakajima. Set amid the lawless aftermath of World War II, the film follows Ueda, a ruthless black marketeer whose violent pursuit of revenge lands him behind bars—only to ignite an obsessive, unstoppable cycle of prison escapes.

Portrayed with raw physicality by Hiroki Matsukata, Ueda is sentenced to twenty years for murder, yet refuses to be contained by any institution. No matter how many times he is recaptured or relocated, prison walls prove meaningless against his will to survive and retaliate. Based on the real exploits of a seven-time escapee, the film strips crime cinema down to its most brutal essentials, rejecting glamour in favour of relentless momentum and moral corrosion.

A key work in Nakajima’s hard-edged filmography, The Rapacious Jailbreaker sits alongside the era’s most uncompromising crime films, bridging postwar desperation with the emerging intensity of 1970s Japanese action cinema. This Limited Edition Blu-ray marks the film’s first release on Blu-ray, featuring a high-definition transfer and a strong slate of newly produced contextual extras.
