Mixing political tension, bourgeois unease and romantic betrayal, the film stars Jean-Louis Trintignant, Romy Schneider and Henri Serre in a sharp, layered drama of ideology and desire.

Clement, the wealthy son of an industrialist, leads a secret life connected to political extremism. After being double-crossed following an assassination attempt, he flees to the countryside with his wife, Anne, where they take refuge with his childhood friend Paul.

As Clement plans revenge, Anne becomes drawn to Paul, creating a volatile triangle of loyalty, attraction and danger. Echoing the political unrest of early 1960s France, Le Combat Dans L'ile stands as a striking rediscovery from the French New Wave and a bold first feature from Alain Cavalier.
