The Prodigal Son Blu-ray stands as one of Sammo Hung’s most celebrated achievements as a director and choreographer, delivering a definitive showcase of Wing Chun martial arts cinema at its peak. Released in 1981, the film reunites Hung with Yuen Biao following their work on Warriors Two and Knockabout, refining both the philosophy and physicality of Wing Chun into one of the most tightly choreographed action films of its era.

Yuen Biao stars as Leung Tsan, a wealthy young man living comfortably under the illusion that he is the greatest fighter in Foshan. His confidence collapses when he is effortlessly defeated by Leung Yee-Tai (Lam Ching-Ying), a performer from a traveling opera troupe. The humiliating loss exposes a painful truth: Tsan’s previous victories were staged by his family to protect him from real danger. Determined to earn genuine skill, Tsan begs Yee-Tai to train him in Wing Chun, with the guidance of master Wong Wah-Bo (Sammo Hung).

As Tsan’s training intensifies, the journey toward mastery is threatened by a mysterious challenger and his ruthless Manchu bodyguards, pushing the film toward a series of lightning-fast, precision-driven confrontations. Winner of Best Action Choreography at the inaugural Hong Kong Film Awards, The Prodigal Son remains a benchmark of martial arts filmmaking, praised for its authenticity, speed, and technical brilliance more than four decades later.
