New Fist of Fury Blu-ray captures the moment Jackie Chan stepped into his first true leading role, launching a career that would redefine martial arts cinema worldwide. Directed by Lo Wei, the filmmaker behind Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury, this 1976 sequel stands as one of the few officially sanctioned continuations of a Lee classic and a fascinating bridge between eras of Hong Kong action filmmaking.

Set in Shanghai and Japanese-occupied Taiwan in the years following Chen Zhen’s death, the film shifts focus to a new generation. Nora Miao reprises her role as Li Er, forced into exile as Japanese forces suppress Chinese martial arts schools. There she crosses paths with Ah Long, a petty thief played by a young Jackie Chan, whose accidental inheritance of Chen Zhen’s nunchaku draws him into the fight. Initially fearful and undisciplined, Ah Long must learn the ways of Jing Wu to stand against brutal karate masters and defend Chinese pride.

While often discussed for its historical significance rather than Chan’s later trademark style, New Fist of Fury reveals early glimpses of his screen charisma, physical agility, and emotional sincerity. Presented here in two distinct cuts, this limited edition Blu-ray showcases the film’s complex production history while restoring it from original negatives for the best home presentation to date.
