Inspired by the international hunt for Carlos the Jackal, the film stars Aidan Quinn as Annibal Ramirez, a U.S. naval officer whose resemblance to the notorious terrorist makes him the centre of a dangerous intelligence operation.
 
After authorities mistake Ramirez for Carlos, the CIA realizes his likeness could be used to draw the real target out of hiding. Trained to impersonate one of the world’s most wanted men, Ramirez is pushed into a psychological and moral test where becoming convincing may mean losing part of himself.
 
Co-starring Donald Sutherland and Ben Kingsley, The Assignment is a tense espionage thriller about identity, manipulation and the human cost of undercover work.
