Based on Anaïs Nin’s posthumously published memoir, the film is set in 1931 Paris and follows Nin as she becomes drawn into the bohemian world of writer Henry Miller and his wife June.
 
Though Anaïs lives comfortably with her husband Ian, she feels creatively and emotionally unfulfilled. Her connection with Henry opens the door to a new artistic circle, while her fascination with June complicates the emotional ties between all three and pulls her deeper into a world of desire, jealousy and ambition.
