With its dry wit, surreal conceit and sharp observations on aging, vanity and bourgeois comfort, Incredible But True is an inventive, tightly wound comedy that has been compared to the work of Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze. Nimble, strange and deceptively thoughtful, the film perfectly showcases Dupieux’s singular vision as one of contemporary French cinema’s most distinctive voices.
