Set between 1919 and 1982, Heimat moves through the aftermath of the First World War, economic hardship, the rise and fall of Nazism, the Second World War and the postwar decades that follow. Against this turbulent historical backdrop, village life continues, with the hopes, compromises and struggles of ordinary people forming the heart of the story.
 
Widely regarded as one of the great achievements in television drama, Heimat is intimate in its family portrait and sweeping in its historical scope. This UK Blu-ray edition has been restored from the original negative by The Edgar Reitz Film Foundation and includes documentary, interviews, introduction and visual essay.
