Fill ’er Up With Super Blu-ray captures the loose, lived-in spirit of 1970s French road cinema in a film that feels effortlessly natural and quietly profound. Klouk, a car salesman stuck delivering a luxury Chevrolet instead of joining his family on holiday, invites his friend Philippe along for the drive from Lille to the Côte d’Azur. Along the way, they pick up two hitchhikers, and what begins as a simple road trip gradually becomes a drifting, episodic journey shaped by conversation, chance encounters, and unspoken bonds.

Directed by Alain Cavalier, Fill ’er Up With Super emerged from months of collaborative script workshops, giving the film an unusually relaxed, documentary-like texture that predates later American indie approaches by nearly a decade. Both humorous and reflective, it explores friendship, masculinity, and youth with an openness that allows moments of surreal warmth to coexist with everyday realism. Long considered a hidden gem, the film was voted one of the greatest French films by Time Out Paris, which described it as a “precious secret.”

This standard edition Blu-ray presents the film in a new 2K restoration from the original camera negative, accompanied by a rich set of interviews and contextual features that reflect on the film’s creation, its collaborators, and its lasting place in French cinema history.
