Antonio Mombelli is content with his modest life as a primary school teacher in the small town of Vigevano. His wife Ada, however, is increasingly dissatisfied with their circumstances and pushes him to leave his secure teaching position, sacrifice his pension and enter the shoe business in pursuit of a more prosperous life.
