Student Confidential Blu-ray presents the worldwide Blu-ray premiere of one of the most infamous vanity projects ever committed to film, newly restored and expanded across two discs. Written, produced, directed, edited, scored by, and starring Richard Horian, the film was originally released under the title The Counselor before being retitled and distributed by Troma Entertainment in 1987 to widespread critical derision.
 
Set in a troubled high school environment, the film follows a group of emotionally volatile students navigating alienation, authority, and repression, filtered through Horian’s intensely personal and unfiltered worldview. Featuring a cast that includes Eric Douglas, Marlon Jackson, Susan Scott, and Ronee Blakley, the film plays like a fever dream of earnest social drama, collapsing genre convention into something stranger, more exposed, and wholly idiosyncratic.
 
Nearly four decades later, Student Confidential has been re-evaluated as a singular artifact of fiercely independent filmmaking, a work of raw auteur obsession unconstrained by taste, restraint, or external oversight. This edition presents both the Theatrical Cut and the Director’s Cut, scanned in 4K from the original camera negatives that were once ordered destroyed, alongside more than five hours of newly produced and archival bonus features that contextualize the film, its creator, and its unlikely afterlife.
