When Józef arrives at a decaying sanatorium to visit his dying father, he enters a world where time no longer behaves rationally and reality seems to dissolve room by room. As he moves deeper into the building, the film unfolds as a series of hallucinatory encounters that blur memory, fantasy and death, transforming the sanatorium into both physical space and psychological landscape.

Adapted from Bruno Schulz and realised through extraordinary production design, the film remains a singular work of visionary cinema, influencing generations of arthouse and fantasy filmmakers.
