The Black Society Trilogy Standard Edition Blu-ray presents three of the most powerful early works from director Takashi Miike. Marking his transition from Japan’s V-cinema scene into major theatrical filmmaking, this crime trilogy explores identity, alienation and violence within the criminal underworld of modern Asia.

Across three interconnected stories, Miike examines outsiders struggling to survive within fractured societies shaped by crime, immigration and broken family ties.

This collection includes:

Shinjuku Triad Society (1995)
Rainy Dog (1997)
Ley Lines (1999)

Shinjuku Triad Society plunges into Tokyo’s Kabukicho nightlife district, where a conflicted mixed-race detective hunts a ruthless criminal involved in organ trafficking. Rainy Dog shifts the story to Taiwan, following an exiled yakuza forced to protect a son he never knew while being hunted by the gang that betrayed him. Ley Lines follows three young men of Chinese descent who travel from rural Japan to Tokyo seeking opportunity, only to find themselves pulled into violent gang conflicts.

Together, these films mark the beginning of Miike’s mature career and demonstrate his ability to blend brutal crime storytelling with deeply human drama.
