Graveyards Of Honor Standard Edition Blu-ray brings together two powerful adaptations of Goro Fujita’s yakuza crime novel from two legendary directors of Japanese cinema: Kinji Fukasaku and Takashi Miike. Presented together in High Definition, these films offer strikingly different interpretations of the same brutal story of ambition, self-destruction and criminal nihilism.
This two-disc collection includes:
Graveyard of Honor (1975)
Graveyard of Honor (2002)
Kinji Fukasaku’s original 1975 film is set in the chaotic years following World War II and follows the rise and fall of real-life gangster Rikio Ishikawa, portrayed by Tetsuya Watari. Known for his unflinching realism and documentary-style intensity, Fukasaku depicts a yakuza world stripped of honor and loyalty, where survival is driven purely by violence and desperation.
Takashi Miike’s 2002 reinterpretation moves the story into modern Tokyo, transforming the narrative into a stylish and chaotic exploration of crime, excess and moral collapse in contemporary Japan. Rather than a direct remake, Miike’s version reimagines the story through his own distinctive cinematic lens.
Together these two films form a fascinating study of the yakuza genre across different eras of Japanese society.
