The Cars That Ate Paris 4K Ultra HD presents a new restoration of Peter Weir’s cult Ozploitation debut, arriving on UHD for the first time. A biting and often surreal satire of small-town life, the film blends black comedy, social horror, and vehicular mayhem into one of Australian cinema’s strangest and most influential early works.

While travelling across Australia in search of work, two brothers are involved in a devastating car crash. The lone survivor is taken in by the seemingly hospitable residents of the nearby town of Paris. As he settles in, the town’s unsettling behavior and unusually high number of road accidents reveal a darker truth. At night, feral youth gangs roam the streets in weaponized cars, and the local hospital quietly fills with crash victims who never quite recover.

Shot in widescreen Panavision, The Cars That Ate Paris announced Peter Weir as a major new voice, combining savage satire with nightmarish imagery. The film was a known favorite of Stanley Kubrick and directly inspired the automotive anarchy of George Miller’s Mad Max series.

This limited edition two-disc set also includes The Plumber, Peter Weir’s made-for-television psychological thriller. Centered on an anthropology student and her husband, the film explores escalating paranoia as an overly familiar plumber begins a series of intrusive and unsettling home visits.
