Prague Nights Blu-ray presents a long-unseen and hypnotic horror anthology from Czechoslovakia’s late-1960s New Wave, blending gothic fantasy, erotic obsession, and occult nightmare into a singular cinematic experience. Often compared to Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath, this richly stylized triptych moves fluidly between medieval superstition and modern unease, anchored in the shadowy streets and hidden catacombs of Prague.

A lonely businessman, Fabricius, encounters a mysterious woman in an abandoned cemetery who recounts three eerie tales steeped in magic and fate. In The Last Golem, a young rabbi attempts to create a living protector from clay, only to be undone by desire. Bread Slippers follows an 18th-century countess whose indulgences in pleasure and betrayal lead her into a fatal dance with destiny. The final segment, Poisoned Poisoner, turns medieval murder into a surreal pop-scored fantasia, blending dark humour with macabre spectacle.

Directed by Miloš Makovec, Jiří Brdečka, and Evald Schorm, Prague Nights is dreamlike, seductive, and deeply strange, filled with clockwork automatons, satanic visitors, and haunting choral music. Restored for its first-ever U.S. release by the Národní filmový archiv in collaboration with Deaf Crocodile Films and Comeback Company, this release is an essential rediscovery for fans of occult cinema, European horror, and surreal fantasy.
