Kin-Dza-Dza! Blu-ray presents one of the most singular science fiction films ever produced, a deadpan cosmic satire that transforms existential despair into surreal comedy. Directed by Georgiy Daneliya, this cult Soviet classic imagines a universe where logic has collapsed, language has been reduced to nonsense syllables, and social hierarchy is enforced through the colour of one’s trousers.

When two ordinary Muscovites — a blunt construction foreman and a Georgian violin student — encounter a strange homeless man asking about their planet’s number in the “Tentura,” they are instantly transported across the galaxy to the desert planet Pluke. There, wooden matches are priceless currency, society is ruled by arbitrary customs, and communication consists largely of the words “ku” and “kyu.” What follows is a bleakly hilarious journey through an alien civilization that feels disturbingly familiar.

Often described as Andrei Tarkovsky colliding with Douglas Adams, Kin-Dza-Dza! blends absurdist humour with biting political satire, skewering bureaucracy, class systems, and institutional stupidity across all ideologies and planets. Its strange imagery — balloon-marked graves, collapsed ferris wheels as housing, and barter-based social codes — builds a universe that is simultaneously ridiculous and unsettling.

Restored by Mosfilm for its first-ever U.S. release and presented by Deaf Crocodile in association with Seagull Films, this edition delivers the definitive presentation of a film widely regarded as one of the most underrated science fiction works of the last half-century.
