Set in nineteenth-century Wyoming, the film follows mild-mannered theatre impresario Tom Healy, whose travelling troupe is constantly short on money thanks in part to leading lady Angela’s expensive taste in clothes. With creditors close behind, the company arrives in Cheyenne, where Angela draws attention from both a lovestruck theatre owner and a dangerous gunslinger.
