Adapted from the novel by Alexander Grin and beautifully restored by Mosfilm in 4K, the film is a lyrical tribute to dreamers, outsiders, sailors and those who refuse to give up on impossible hopes.
 
The film follows Assol, the daughter of an impoverished sailor, who grows up holding onto a prophecy that one day a white ship with scarlet sails will come for her. Alongside her story is Arthur, the rebellious son of an aristocrat who dreams of the sea, adventure and a life beyond the world expected of him.
 
Often overlooked within Ptushko’s filmography, Scarlet Sails is one of his most tender and visually poetic works, filled with windmills, cliffs, storms, firelight and the pull of the ocean. This limited slipcover edition includes the 4K restoration, new commentary, new visual essay, new video conversation, booklet and limited edition slipcover.
