Maniac Blu-ray presents this lesser-known but sharply crafted Hammer thriller in a high definition remaster. Written by Jimmy Sangster and drawing inspiration from Les Diaboliques and Psycho, the film follows a young American stranded in rural France who becomes entangled with a hotel owner and a dangerous scheme involving her institutionalised husband.
Tightly paced and steeped in psychological tension, Maniac delivers continental atmosphere, moral ambiguity and classic early-’60s suspense from Hammer at its most daring.
