Olivia Colman stars as filmmaker Hannah, who travels to Amsterdam with her trans nonbinary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to visit Frances’s beloved grandfather, affectionately known as “Jimpa.” Played by John Lithgow, Jimpa is a proudly independent gay man whose life and outlook reflect a generation that once never expected to grow old.
 
When Frances expresses a desire to remain in Amsterdam with Jimpa for a year, Hannah is forced to confront difficult questions about family, identity and parenting. As three generations navigate their differing perspectives, long-held beliefs and personal expectations are challenged, leading to moments of tension, reflection and growth.
