54 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray presents Mark Christopher’s Studio 54 drama in a definitive Cinématographe edition featuring both the 1998 theatrical version and the 2015 director’s cut. Set in 1979 New York, the film follows a working-class Jersey City teenager drawn into the glamour, excess and shifting identities of one of Manhattan’s most famous nightclubs.
Ryan Phillippe stars as Shane, whose fascination with Studio 54 pulls him into the orbit of club owner Steve Rubell, played by Mike Myers, along with busboy Greg, coat checker Anita and actress Julie. As Shane becomes part of the club’s inner world, 54 captures the energy, ambition and uncertainty of a specific moment in New York nightlife.
Originally reworked before its theatrical release and later restored in a significantly different director’s cut, 54 has become a fascinating case study in alternate edits and rediscovered studio filmmaking. This Cinématographe release includes a new 4K restoration of the theatrical version, the director’s cut, extensive new and archival extras, essays and limited edition MediaBook packaging.
