Vinyl Blu-ray marks the 25th anniversary special edition of Alan Zweig’s deeply personal and darkly humorous documentary about the psychology of record collecting. Released by Canadian International Pictures and distributed by OCN Distribution, this edition revisits a cult-favourite Canadian documentary in its most expansive home video presentation.
Through candid conversations with devoted vinyl collectors—and by turning the camera on himself—Zweig explores obsession, isolation, and the search for meaning through objects. Blending confessional filmmaking with deadpan wit, Vinyl captures both the joy and the emotional toll of collecting. Alongside everyday enthusiasts, the film features appearances by Bruce LaBruce, Guy Maddin, Don McKellar, Harvey Pekar, and critic Geoff Pevere.
As much self-portrait as cultural study, Vinyl established Zweig’s singular voice and remains a resonant meditation on passion, loneliness, and identity.
