Long before his legal battles over self-published comics made him a cult figure in censorship debates, Mike Diana was creating homemade horror and exploitation films with friends, family members and neighbourhood kids, producing a body of work as provocative, chaotic and fiercely independent as his artwork.
 
Shot on 8mm film and early video formats between 1987 and 1990, these productions embody the anything-goes spirit of grassroots filmmaking. Blood Brothers offers Diana's no-budget take on the slasher boom, while Baked Baby Jesus pushes even further into confrontational satire, black comedy and social commentary. Together they reveal a filmmaker determined to create entirely on his own terms, regardless of convention, budget or good taste.
