The Island Blu-ray presents one of the most uncompromising and accomplished horror films to emerge from Hong Kong cinema, finally making its Blu-ray debut outside of Asia. Directed by British-Chinese filmmaker Po-Chih Leong, the film transplants the raw survival horror of 1970s and 1980s Western genre classics to a remote East Asian island, forging a brutal and unsettling experience rooted in cultural and class conflict.

During a summer excursion, schoolteacher Mr Cheung brings a group of students to what he believes is an uninhabited rural island. Instead, they encounter a violently insular family living in isolation, ruled by three deranged brothers and their unstable mother. When one student rejects a forced marriage proposal, the visit spirals into terror, trapping Cheung and his students in a fight for survival against a community that views them as intruders.

Blending savage brutality with distinctly Hong Kong sensibilities, The Island balances social commentary, character-driven tension, and relentless menace. Anchored by a strong ensemble cast led by John Sham, the film stands as a rare and essential entry in Asian horror cinema, now restored and presented in a definitive limited edition.
