The Dead Mother Blu-ray presents the haunting, darkly comic gothic thriller that helped ignite the Spanish genre explosion of the 1990s. Directed by Juanma Bajo Ulloa, this unsettling psychological drama blends crime, obsession, and warped emotional dependency into a singular and deeply disturbing experience that recalls the bleak irony of the Coen brothers filtered through European art-house sensibilities.
After committing a brutal murder during a robbery, Ismael leaves a young girl orphaned and permanently scarred by trauma. Years later, fate brings them together again when Ismael encounters the woman she has become. Convinced she recognizes him and will expose his crime, he kidnaps her in a desperate attempt to control the situation. As the days pass, a twisted bond forms between captor and captive, blurring the line between fear, guilt, and emotional dependency. The tension escalates as Ismael delays his ransom demands, knowing he cannot postpone the inevitable forever.
Starring Karra Elejalde in a chilling, morally corrosive performance, The Dead Mother is a daring and unconventional thriller that earned major international acclaim and announced Juanma Bajo Ulloa as one of Spain’s most distinctive voices. This limited edition Blu-ray features a new 4K restoration supervised and approved by the director, alongside an exceptional suite of extras and a soundtrack CD exclusive to this release.
