Playroom Blu-ray presents the world disc debut of Manny Coto’s occult-tinged late-80s horror thriller, newly restored in 4K from 35mm elements. Blending archaeological mystery, psychological breakdown, and creature-driven horror, Playroom explores obsession, buried trauma, and ancient evil through a descent into ritual madness.

When he was a young boy, Chris witnessed the brutal slaughter of his entire family during one of his father’s archaeology digs at a remote monastery hidden deep in the mountains of Yugoslavia. Decades later, still plagued by violent nightmares, Chris returns to the site hoping to complete his father’s work by uncovering the tomb of Ilok — a torture-obsessed child prince said to have made a pact with an ancient Slavic demon for eternal life. As the excavation progresses, Chris begins to behave erratically, becoming consumed by the search and drifting closer to complete psychological collapse.

Produced by Smart Egg Pictures, one of the key financiers behind A Nightmare on Elm Street, and released in some territories as Schizo, Playroom marks the feature-film directorial debut of Manny Coto (Dr. Giggles). Anchored by a gloriously unhinged performance from Christopher McDonald and supported by character actor Vincent Schiavelli, the film builds toward a delirious finale filled with unexpected creature effects and supernatural excess. Vinegar Syndrome presents Playroom on Blu-ray for the first time worldwide, featuring a new 4K restoration and a slate of newly produced interviews.
