Blending mob biopic, political thriller and procedural investigation, the film stars Gian Maria Volonté as Charles “Lucky” Luciano, alongside Rod Steiger and Edmond O’Brien.
 
After Luciano is released early from a U.S. prison and deported to Naples, FBI agent Charles Siragusa begins working to dismantle his transatlantic criminal network. As informants, law enforcement and underworld interests collide, the film builds a sharp portrait of organized crime and postwar power.
 
Co-written by Tonino Guerra, with cinematography by Pasqualino De Santis and music by Piero Piccioni, Lucky Luciano is a cool, intelligent and politically charged work from one of Italian cinema’s great filmmakers.
