Longing For Innocence Blu-ray presents the 2023 documentary feature assembled from Leni Riefenstahl’s footage of the Nuba people in the Kordofan Province of Sudan. Filmed between 1963 and 1976, the material captures cultural traditions, daily life and communal rituals from Riefenstahl’s extended time in the Nuba Mountains.
 
For Riefenstahl, the Nuba experience offered a way to reconnect with filmmaking and image-making after the controversy that followed her earlier propaganda work. Although she never completed a film from the material during her lifetime, this edition represents the most comprehensive release of the footage to date.
 
Also included is Riefenstahl’s final directorial work, Impressions Under Water, a 2002 documentary reflecting her later passion for scuba diving and underwater photography. This Blu-ray edition includes both films along with audio commentaries by film historian Anthony Slide.
