Inflatable Sex Doll Of The Wastelands Blu-ray presents the first-ever U.S. release of Atsushi Yamatoya’s hypnotic 1967 noir, a fractured, dreamlike descent into obsession, memory, and revenge. Equal parts crime film, underground pink cinema, and avant-garde experiment, the film bends time and narrative logic into a feverish hallucination that feels decades ahead of its era.
 
Low-rent hitman Shô drifts through a haze of grief and fixation, haunted by the murder of his girlfriend years earlier and consumed by fantasies of vengeance. As past and present collapse into one another, the film unfolds in jagged fragments — looping dialogue, fourth-wall ruptures, surreal musical interludes, and dissonant free jazz — creating a psychic landscape closer to obsession than plot. The result is a noir that behaves like memory itself: unstable, repetitive, and emotionally corrosive.
 
Written and directed by Yamatoya, who co-wrote Branded to Kill the same year, the film stands as a companion piece to the Japanese New Wave’s most radical crime cinema. Its lurid black-and-white photography, sadomasochistic undertones, and abrasive experimentation place it alongside the most confrontational work of 1960s cult cinema. Deaf Crocodile presents the film newly rescued from the only surviving 35mm elements and digitally restored, allowing this long-buried underground classic to finally be seen as intended.
