Welcome II the Terrordome Blu-ray presents Ngozi Onwurah’s radically ahead-of-its-time 1995 dystopian sci-fi film in a director-approved Criterion Collection special edition. The first theatrically distributed British feature by a Black woman, the film imagines a near future where Black people are segregated within a slum known as the Terrordome.
 
After the murder of a young boy, anger and violence threaten to erupt across the Terrordome, while the film’s rap soundtrack helps drive both the story and its political urgency. Named after Public Enemy’s incendiary single, Welcome II the Terrordome brings American, British and African cultural influences into collision as past, present and future collapse into one another.
 
Visionary, confrontational and prescient, Onwurah’s film connects the history of slavery to modern systemic racial brutality through a bold Afrofuturist lens. This Criterion Blu-ray features a new 2K digital restoration, new commentary, Criterion Channel interview, three short films by Onwurah and an essay by Kadish Morris.
