Dario Argento Deep Cuts Blu-ray brings together an unprecedented collection of the legendary filmmaker’s rare and long-unavailable television work, finally making its North American disc debut in a massive four-disc set. Created at the height of his cinematic powers, these projects allowed Argento to translate his unmistakable vision of fear, mystery, and violence into Italian prime-time television.
At the core of the set is Door Into Darkness, the landmark 1973 RAI anthology series produced and hosted by Argento, featuring Il Tram directed by Argento himself, alongside episodes directed and co-written by Luigi Cozzi. Three of the four episodes are sourced from the original 16mm camera negatives for the first time. Also included is material from Argento’s 1987 television work, highlighted by Dario Argento’s Nightmares and segments from the variety and talk show Giallo, newly scanned and digitized from rediscovered film and broadcast elements.
Across more than ten hours of content, the set expands beyond the episodes themselves to include murder-mystery segments directed by Luigi Cozzi and Lamberto Bava, behind-the-scenes tours from Tenebre, Phenomena, and Opera, and appearances by guests such as Anthony Perkins, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Fiore Argento. The result is a definitive deep dive into Argento’s television legacy, revealing a vital but overlooked chapter in Italian horror history.
