A drifter on the run stumbles into the chaos of a film set and discovers that survival might depend on performance. Recently returned from Vietnam and fleeing the law, Cameron (Steve Railsback) hides among the cast and crew of an ambitious World War I epic directed by the volatile Eli Cross (Peter O’Toole). Passing himself off as a stunt double, he agrees to perform increasingly dangerous feats — but on Cross’s set, reality and illusion blur into something far more unsettling. Richard Rush’s audacious 1980 cult classic is a dizzying meditation on moviemaking, manipulation and madness, anchored by one of O’Toole’s most electrifying performances.
