Newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative, the film follows the friendship between American journalist Sydney Schanberg and Cambodian interpreter Dith Pran during the rise of the Khmer Rouge.
 
As Cambodia falls into chaos, Schanberg is forced to confront the limits of his role as a journalist after escaping the country, while Pran is left behind to survive under a brutal regime. Their bond becomes the emotional centre of a harrowing story about war, guilt, loyalty and endurance.
