The Grapes Of Death 4K Ultra HD presents Jean Rollin’s blood-soaked return to horror, blending zombie cinema and contagion thriller into one of the most visceral and socially charged entries in his filmography. Released in 1978, the film stands apart from Rollin’s dreamlike gothic fantasies, grounding its horrors in contemporary fears of environmental collapse and chemical contamination.
Traveling into France’s wine-making countryside, Élizabeth encounters villagers displaying grotesque signs of infection and violent behaviour. Teaming up with Paul and Lucien, she uncovers a deadly truth: a pesticide used in local vineyards has transformed those who drink the wine into murderous zombies. As the outbreak spreads, survival becomes a desperate struggle against both the infected and the poisoned land itself.
Starring Marie-Georges Pascal, Félix Marten, and Serge Marquand, and featuring appearances by Brigitte Lahaie and other Rollin regulars, The Grapes Of Death is a bleak, furious vision of ecological horror. Gory, nihilistic, and unrelenting, it remains one of Rollin’s most confrontational works, now restored from the original negative for its world premiere on 4K Ultra HD.
